How to reduce the risk of cot death
Mothercare’s parenting consultant Liz Day gives some advice for new parents on sleep safety for newborns. The risk of cot death is rare and has in fact fallen over the past few years thanks to following some of these guidelines. Liz talks parents through the guidelines for sleep safety and helping to reduce the risk of cot death which include ensuring that your baby doesn’t get too hot and it is particularly important that their cot or crib is not placed near a heat source like sunlight through a window or a radiator. Liz also demonstrates how to place a baby in the feet to foot position in their crib so they cannot wriggle down under the covers and also recommends that babies under 6 months should sleep within easy reach of their parents. Parents should never smoke near their baby and also avoid smoking during pregnancy too.
