I knew I was pregnant before I took a test. I had the weird metallic taste in my mouth and morning sickness kicked in very quickly. So it wasn’t a huge surprise seeing two strong lines appear when I finally did do a test. Even though it was a cheapy from Poundland, the two lines went bright pink really quickly, so I was in no doubt I was expecting.

My intense pregnancy symptoms alongside my very positive result meant I convinced myself I was carrying twins.

I mean of course I was. Why on earth would I need to be sick so much and feel repulsed by any food that wasn’t bland and beige?

But before you could say “double buggy”, I’d had my first scan and told there was only one baby there. So despite being absolutely sure, I wasn’t expecting twins or triplets, sadly.

In reality, only 3% of pregnant women are expecting twins, triplets or more – and only 1% of these are natural conception – so it’s very unlikely, but it seems many of us think maybe we’re one of the chosen few.
